This usually means >90% efficiency, meaning less than 10% of the energy is lost in the heating of your home. Furnaces that are 15+ years old usually are 80-85% efficient or lower. This means a serious upgrade to your home’s energy bills with a new furnace. There are 3 main types of furnaces: Single stage, two stage and modulating furnaces. Single stage This type of furnace is the least efficient of the three and only has two modes. On or Off. This can lead to cold spots in your home and overall lower comfort levels.
